The future of Ghana’s land governance is being shaped through collaborative efforts and inclusive discussions on the Land Act 2020 (ACT 1036). The new Land Act for Ghana was passed in 2020. To facilitate its implementation, the Lands Commission initiated the process for the development of Regulations for the Land Act. The Land Sector Multi-Stakeholder Platform has since been supporting by mobilizing stakeholder consultations to gather inputs to inform the development of the Regulations.  

This week, the Coordinating Committee of the Ghana Land Sector Multi-Stakeholder Platform, with support from SNV Ghana, is holding one such consultations with stakeholders in Large Scale Land-Based Investments (LSLBI) in Ghana.  

The three-day consultative workshop has brought together Customary Land Authorities, Community Representatives, Farmer Cooperatives, and Land-Based Investors.  

The workshop is to help the participants gain a deeper understanding of the Land Act and the relevant Sections focused on large scale land-based investments. 

COLANDEF's role in this process goes beyond participation; we advocate for inclusive land governance. By representing Civil Society Organizations on the Coordinating Committee of the LSMSP, COLANDEF is at the forefront of advocating for transparency, inclusiveness, representation and voice of agricultural land rights holders. Through such efforts, we continue to work for a future where land policies benefit all, promote sustainable development, and empower local communities.
