National Land Conference 2022 Report

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Lands Commission, the Department of Land Economy of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and COLANDEF Land and Property Rights organized the National Land Conference from 06 - 09 December 2022.

Theme and Objectives

The theme of the Conference was, 'Leveraging National Land Policy, Legislation, and Institutional Capacity towards Sustainable Socio-Economic Development'. The Conference had the following key objectives:

  1. Provide a multistakeholder platform for policy dialogue on land issues and challenges and propose recommendations to government for addressing them

  2. Provide opportunity for discussion and adoption of innovative approaches and enabling technologies for improving land governance and land administration in the country

  3. Increase public awareness and potential benefits of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 926)

  4. Establish a multi-stakeholder platform to monitor the implementation of the recommendations of the Conference and generally promote good land governance and land administration.

Outcomes

The Conference yielded the following outcomes:

  1. Raised awareness of conference participants on the existence and content of the Land
    Act, 2020 and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016

  2. Established the Land Sector Multi-Stakeholder Platform for inclusive land governance
    (LSMSP) to spearhead the implementation of the recommendations of the Conference and to monitor the outcomes.

  3. Issuance of a Communique at the end of the Conference articulating the main recommendations of the Conference.

  4. Established broad modalities for implementation of the Land Act 2020 and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016
